virtualcitySYSTEMS 3D model of Basel

virtualcitySYSTEMS created a 3D model of two regions of the city for the AR-4-Basel project as part of its partnership. This permits us to advance the technical innovation at the intersection of 3D and AR.

Messe area of Basel

The Level of Detail (LOD) 2 Building Geometry was derived from city of Basel's airborne LiDAR data (DSM 50 cm raster resolution, DTM 1m raster resolution).

Combined with the cadastre survey, the buildings were produced in a matter of a few hours using the virtualcitySYSTEMS' ‘BuildingReconstruction’ software solution.

The resulting Building Geometry files are available in the following formats:

  • CityGML 1.0 (OGC-Standard), including selected attributes gained during the reconstruction process in LiDAR-Data (roof type, ground height, eaves height, measured height, roof pitch, roof orientation, roof area). The two areas Messe and Old Town are split up into several CityGML files.
  • ESRI 3D-Shape File (Polygon-Z) with attributes gained during building reconstruction process (e.g. face area, building height, minimal and maximal Z value, roof orientation, roof pitch, face type, etc.)
  • KML file with colored roof and wall faces (beige and red), including all attributes gained during the reconstruction process. The attributes will be shown in Google Earth in a balloon, when clicking on a building
