virtualcitySYSTEMS created a 3D model of two regions of the city for the AR-4-Basel project as part of its partnership. This permits us to advance the technical innovation at the intersection of 3D and AR.
The Level of Detail (LOD) 2 Building Geometry was derived from city of Basel's airborne LiDAR data (DSM 50 cm raster resolution, DTM 1m raster resolution).
Combined with the cadastre survey, the buildings were produced in a matter of a few hours using the virtualcitySYSTEMS' ‘BuildingReconstruction’ software solution.
The resulting Building Geometry files are available in the following formats:
- CityGML 1.0 (OGC-Standard), including selected attributes gained during the reconstruction process in LiDAR-Data (roof type, ground height, eaves height, measured height, roof pitch, roof orientation, roof area). The two areas Messe and Old Town are split up into several CityGML files.
- ESRI 3D-Shape File (Polygon-Z) with attributes gained during building reconstruction process (e.g. face area, building height, minimal and maximal Z value, roof orientation, roof pitch, face type, etc.)
- KML file with colored roof and wall faces (beige and red), including all attributes gained during the reconstruction process. The attributes will be shown in Google Earth in a balloon, when clicking on a building
