Here's what's new!

Data Set Partners

The project has expanded the data sets which are available through partnerships with public and private entities. Beginning with the "default" data set which is available for download from the Land and Survey office of Basel upon agreement with the terms of this license, there have been requests for custom data sets which we are providing to developers. Do you have an idea for an AR experience based on a custom data set? Please don't hesitate to contact us.

Separately, GTA Geoinformatik GmbH is making its CityGML data set of the city of Basel available under non-exclusive, non-commercial license upon request.

In addition, we have worked with the utilities company of Basel, Industrielle Werke Basel (IWB), to obtain for AR developers involved in this project the location of the company's gas, water, electricity and heating pipes! These are 2D, geo-referenced data sets in which you can design your next game or learning application. Request this data set to explore what's under the streets!

Last but not least, the Basel Tourism bureau has agreed to be a partner of the project. In the initial phase, the bureau is making available its complete POI data set for download (100s of tourist attractions, all the museums and landmarks are geo-referenced). Note that this data set is different from the city of Basel Land and Survey POI (which includes tram stops, public services, and other practical places). The Basel Tourism data set is also available via API. If you wish to access the live data set, contact us.

The list of data sets is growing. If you are interested in image data sets, please get in touch soon as those are being developed and will be made available upon request.

Vounteers

In addition to a dozen independent testers, we are collaborating with faculty and students at the University of Applied Sciences Institute of Visual Communications as well as the IMI Hotel Management School.

Why do you care? The AR-4-Basel project experiences will be tested first hand in the city beginning Sept 25. Developers will receive feedback on many aspects of their experiences (e.g., performance, interaction design, etc) from these volunteers.

Prizes

Is this what you have been waiting for? Yes! We have received donations from project partners and from several AR tools providers who want to encourage you to create exciting experiences for Basel.

Check out the Prizes page today!

Come back as we are going to be adding to the list over the next few weeks.
