The community of people seeking to advance work towards open and interoperable AR met on November 8 and 9, 2012 co-located with the International Symposium on Mixed and Augmented Reality (ISMAR12) in Atlanta, Georgia.
Those planning to participate in the AR Standards community meeting should review the documentation of the first meeting, second meeting, third meeting, fourth meeting, fifth meeting and sixth meeting.
Position Papers
In addition to the invited speaker presentations and moderated plenary collaborations, contributions to the community may be made in advance of the meeting in the form of position papers. To submit position papers, please follow the guidelines. Consideration will be given to these by the program committee when preparing the final agenda.
Meeting Goals
The face-to-face meetings are designed to promote the discussion between stakeholders of the ecosystem for the development of open and interoperable AR content and experiences.
If you are a developer of Augmented Reality tools, a developer of AR experiences or publisher of information you would like others to see or hear synchronized with the physical world, there will be numerous benefits for you.
During the two day meeting, you will work side by side with AR industry leaders and SDO Work Group chairs to:
- learn the status of activities and discuss progress in all relevant standards development organizations, including
- Khronos Group
- Open Mobile Alliance Mobile AR Enabler
- W3C Points of Interest and GeoLocation WGs
- ISO/JTC SC 29
- ISO/JTC SC 24 Working Group 9 on AR
- Web3D Consortium
- Open Geospatial Consortium
- MIPI Alliance
- Society of Information Display
- NISO
- continue development of the community resources including but not limited to:
- the ISO/IEC 23000-14 AR Reference Model (Collaborative Project June 25, 2012; AR RM as of July 21 2012)
- AR Standards landscape and status of what each SDO we are tracking is doing in the area of AR
- Hands-free display and context capture system and standards, including
- initiate development of new community resources, as needed, and
- discuss emerging challenges which may be addressed via standards or open source interfaces.
Augmented Reality developers encountering obstacles to reach and adoption as a result of proprietary technology "silos" will be particularly encouraged to attend in order to learn about the open specifications and APIs under development, and to provide your opinions. AR developers participating in the community are on the front lines to learn about and influence the direction of new tools.
All community members are invited to suggest topics for the agenda via submission of position papers.
