A position paper on the topic of Interoperability Testing of Open and Interoperable AR Content and Experiences is available for pre-reading/review. This position paper is part of the materials for the Seventh AR Standards Community meeting.
When AR is open and interoperable, a publisher will be able to use the tools of choice and the workflow most natural for the business needs, and with these tools and associated services, will be able to publish AR-enabled content and/or AR experiences in a manner that provides the maximum audience reach.
Similarly, the users of AR-enabled devices and software will be able to choose the hardware and software that is most suitable for their budget and purposes, while maintaining reach to publishers and being assured access to AR-enabled content.
AR publishing will have the option to use open interfaces and standards to be neutral to the choice of client/user agent and end user chooses, however, some optional features will only be available using special hardware and/or software designed for enabling those additional features. In other words, AR content will resemble the content currently published for the Web.
Demonstrations of AR content and experiences that use an open interface, and/or proposed or ratified standard are the first step to better understanding the opportunities and challenges.
During the Seventh AR Standards Community meeting Nov 8-9 in Atlanta, GA, there will be an opportunity to demonstrate AR content and experiences that comply with international standards and/or open APIs and formats. The standards may be final or draft. The content and experiences may illustrate any use case.
The following examples will be available.
