Met Office Sponsor Page

The Met Office is the UK's National Weather Service and a world leader in providing weather and climate services. The Met Office is recognised as one of the world's most accurate forecasters, using more than 10 million weather observations a day, an advanced atmospheric model and a high performance supercomputer to create 3,000 tailored forecasts and briefings a day.

As a sponsor of the 3D Geospatial Geneva Showcase, the Met Office seeks to advance research in the areas of data publishing, mobility and visualization. In 2012, a Met Office project on AR-assisted visualization of wind data uncovered the possibility of using web services to dynamically generate meteorological data cubes. Some results of this project and an effort to explore standardization of this approach, led to the formation of the Open Geospatial Consortium Temporal Domain Working Group in 2013.

The Met Office encourages developers to explore the use of lightweight open interfaces for the request and publishing of meteorological and climate data.
